Blimp

Blimp

Looking down, I saw the blimp navigating.

I wondered how it was able to surf the Huatulco harbor.

It really had a big head. I almost wasn´t able to see the fins, just a tiny tail.

What a fish !!!!, I think I will not have one of those for dinner (even if the fish was not angry) !

It was a short stay at that vacation city, next to the pacific ocean. The hotel was strange, but finally it was original and room was really huge.

After starring at that big headed small fish, I walked around and had some lunch. The small beach was plenty of people, and it was nice to walk between the mainly mexican families.

Huatulco

After sitting, I realized that I had a mystic message just in front of me: Micheladas 2×1 !!!!

Michelada is a mix of beer and lemon juice, but in spanish, also means something like ¨Michel´s crasy things, twice !¨.

I tried to ignore the message, and ordered another orange juice !

Micheladas

Next morning was calm, I had to organize everything to arrive at 1400 local time, into Toluca, next to Mexico City.

There, Earthrounder Jorge Cornish, his wife Malu, and my Madrid´s friend Javier, together with media news, would be waiting for me. After fighting the day before with the international race that are the taxi-drivers, I decided to take the bus that would take me near the airport. It was nice to mix with everybody. I was even presented as the uncle of one of the bus crew!

Everything was straightforward at the airport: nice Civil Aviation representatives and cool procedures, also unexpensive.

Huatulco airport terminal is really beautiful, I was glad to stopover there.

Expected flight time was around two hours. I decided to fly VFR and play around the clouds if necessary. Initial clearance was for 12500 ft. My RV was light, so no problems !

Soon I entered the mountains, and enjoyed a beautiful flight across big mountains and barren ground.

far away

Many roads were dirt ones. Isolated homes, linked by hight tension wires pictured the area.

Not the best place to have an engine stop, so I kissed my dear plane just to tell him not to stop the engine.

Frequency was calm, so I was able to study as much as I could. Study the ground, of course and looking at some perfect clouds.

Problem was time: I was arriving to early.

So I throttled back the engine and flew at some 100 kts indicated. Then my head started to dance from side to side. That light to moderate turbulence was shaking me for around one hour until the huge Popocatepetl volcano was in sight. But I was not lucky: the volcano is inside a prohibited area. The reason: it is somehow unpredictable and active, so authorities have decided not to have spanish earthrounding airplanes shot down, nor other airplanes !

Pococatepel

What a pity.

I reached the Toluca area and contacted approach: EC XLL, fly radial 125 into Toluca.

????????

It was a revival !

So many years without being asked something like that!

But it was fun and soon I was cleared left downwind of runway 15. I turn tight of runway threshold and got plenty of landings before the final one. Fortunately, camera TV guys were far away.

EC XLL, please exit via Echo!

Toluca, EC XLL runway 15 vacated, I request to cross Alpha at Echo.

Granted, I wondered what those two big red firefighting trucks were doing there.

There was an a Airbus plane at a close finger position. May be some fuel spill ???

Buuut both trucks should be facing the same direction and they were sitting opposite…

Well….Jorge Cornish is waiting for me…..mmmmmm, something is going on…better I close the canopy again.

What a good decision !!!!

The Noah´s Ark flooding was nothing compared with those trucks attack !!!!

I was forced into an IFR taxi, some priers, basic instinct and of course, happiness and fun !

What a welcome !!!!
