The Spanish Polar Committee (CPE) informed that they could not process the clearance because the provided information did not comply with what they asked for. Even though it was sent November 2014, and we have sent more documents in May 2015, those documents were ¨stopped¨ on their way to the CPE by somebody working for CPE.

September 22nd and 23rd, I have been at the meetings of the 25th anniversary of the Spanish antarctica base called Gabriel de Castilla. There, I met Mr. Manuel Catalan, who is a retired Admiral and is the Technical Secretary of the CPE. He was the one who told me that he never received the documents sent in May. Also that anyway, he needed also that the University of Granada to state that they accept the responsibility of the scientific management of Skypolaris project.

So, the good news are that the University is providing that document and initially, the door will be open.

It is true that I told Mr Catalan that I would take him in my airplane, fly inverted and then, in that position, have him signing me all the permits !

Only other problem is that Mr. Catalan is quite concerned about the airplane, and is afraid that I will have an accident there. That could lead him to consider the environmental impact to be more than minimum or transitory. Now the task is to have him more confident about the safety of a flight there.

I am working that issue to have it solved too.

But time is running fast…

Meanwhile, still building the belly fuel tank. I would like to thank the Maestranza Aérea de Cuatro Vientos, whose Colonel provided his clearance to have the tank leading edge rolled. The beautiful job was made by Mr. Juan Farelo, and the skin fits perfect the tank.

El Comité Polar Español (CPE) me informó que no podían avanzar en la autorización, porque no disponían de la documentación que me había sido solicitada.

La documentación fue presentada en noviembre de 2015 y ampliada en Mayo del presente año, pero aparentemente se quedó en el camino. Es decir, fue remitida a una persona que trabaja con el CPE y de allí, no fue remitida al Sr. Catalan, Almirante retirado de la Armada, que además de experto antártico, es un gran científico y es el Secretario Técnico del Comité Polar.

Estuve presente en las Jornadas Antárticas, celebradas el pasado 22 y 23 de Septiembre, en homenaje al 25 aniversario de la Base Antártica española Gabriel de Castilla.

Allí conocí en persona al Sr. Catalán quien me comentó que no había recibido la información remitida en Mayo y que de cualquier forma, necesitaba que la Universidad de Granada avalara el proyecto Cielo Polar. La buena noticia es que el Vicerrector de la Universidad avala el proyecto y la semana que viene la documentación estará en manos del Sr. Catalan.

Cierto es que le dije al Secretario Técnico que le llevaría en mi avión, y le pondría en vuelo invertido, para entonces conseguir que me firmará en ese momento todos los permisos, si quería volver a la horizontal…

Queda otro problema. El Sr. Catalan piensa que voy a tener un accidente en la Antartida, y que de tenerlo, el impacto medio ambiental sería superior al mínimo o transitorio, a su modo de ver.

Ahora se trata de convencerle que la aviación ligera es segura y en concreto en la Antártida. Ese pasa a ser el nuevo objetivo urgente ya que el tiempo pasa rápidamente.

Mientras, sigo con la construcción del depósito inferior, y quisiera agradecer al Coronel de la Maestranza Aerea de Cuatro Vientos, por autorizar sus medios para este proyecto. El Sr. Juan Farelo es quien ha curvado el borde de ataque del depósito de una forma perfecta y que se adapta como un guante al depósito. Es muy agradable contar con esta colaboración tan amistosa como desinteresada.
