YEEEEEES !!!!!!
Yeeeeeees !!!!
I did it !!!
My dream became true, and I wetted the wings of my dear RV8 (RV8 ER as I name it) under the pristine waters of Angel´s Fall.
Not as easy I would have expected. No much room left if the water fall itself is not much, as it not the good time of the year. It was necessary to really close in and turning sharp before reaching the stone wall just in front of the aircraft.
If the Angel´s fall is beautiful, the Tepui itself is pure wonder. So high, so steep. Vertical wall can be may be 4500 ft (1500m) vertical.
The surface at the Tepui top is also incredible. Very few spot to land the, as did Jimmy Angel.
Those Tepuis are really the place where Gods lives, as stated by local inhabitants.
As I entered the Venezuela airspace at 13000 ft and no oxygen, there was no answer to my radio calls. Not even a blink in my transponder (transponder is an equipment that receives the signal ¨call¨ from the ground station, amplify it and send it back to the station, like a mirror on steroids).
Not even a single blink I have said? They aren´t seeing me ? (the blink means that they do).
So, I was so sad and concerned that I decided to drift down.
And down
And down…
But Tepuis are huge, so I have to stop very soon that drift down.
Of course, clear skies, but in that Auyan Tepui.
May be he wanted me not to come and break the giant silence of its soul?
But I knew that he felt why I was approaching and he did it, the god of the clouds…
He opened a small door and let me in.
Yes, I said, but before that, I will sail close to that vertical wall that was almost hiding behind the clouds.
It was beautiful !
Then I turned left I flew straight to the door, and found myself low, over the top of the Tepui.
Broken rocks and a different land shape from any one I have ever seen.
I entered into its hearth and followed the cliffs until finding Angel´s fall.
No much power was left on the engine, no much speed either, but a good hole underneath to recover if necessary.
First look to find out about sizes, rooms, water, how to approach and how to scape.
And then, I went for it.
Straight into the wall, then a slight turn to the left, then closer and closer and in.
I was told: be careful
Don´t stare at it. If you do, you will crash in the wall
SO I did, I broke left once I felt the water sparkling me, and went down and center of the valley.
Heat was climbling at the center, with lift. Close to the walls, it was downdraft.
Speed up, climb, climb, climb to 13000 ft.
Canaima airport was close so better I had the expected altitude.
