Michel Lands in Red Lake Ontario

Sky Polaris has gotten word from Michel (thank you Paula!) that he has landed at Red Lake, Ontario, Canada. One of Michel’ check points was Oshkosh, Wisconsin. This is home of the Experimental Aircraft Association and where Michel has landed before, once in 1998 with his Kitfox, and in 2001 with his MCR-01. I am sure he had happy memories of being there and also sure that he was VERY tempted to land and say “Hello, I just flew here from Madrid, Spain and wanted to say hi”. If he had I am sure there would be some surprised people there.

Michel’s plan is now to fly today to Churchill, Manitoba, near the Hudson Bay. This is one of the staging points for the long and momentous flight over the earth’s north pole.

Is the earth big? You bet it is. But Michel is making it smaller. Most of us cannot imagine how big it really is and the vast distances between habit-ed areas. Most of the Earth is remote and uninhabited but Michel’s RV-8 and his piloting skills span those great distances.

Thanks to Google Earth, take a look at where Michel has been:

The world is BIG

Tracker indicates that he was on the way to Rankin Inlet airport at 22:28 UTC last night. There he should actually be after 1.400 nm from Windsor via Oshkosh and Churchill.
